La BYD Dolphin G DM-i marks a turning point in the brand’s strategy. Its European design centre, which opened in Milan in late 2025 under the leadership of Wolfgang Egger — former head of design at Audi and Alfa Romeo — has helped give this model a silhouette that is deliberately more understated and European in style than its predecessors. With its clean front end, refined headlights and compact three-box saloon body, the Dolphin G stands out from the usual conventions of the segment.
With its 4.16 metres long and 1.825 metres wide, It sits at the heart of the European B-segment, where the Golf, Peugeot 308 and Renault Mégane compete. A familiar design, cutting-edge technology.
The Dolphin G DM-i operates like an electric car with a range extender. In the vast majority of situations, it is the 163-horsepower electric motor which drives the wheels. The 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 95 horsepower is primarily used as a generator to charge the battery — or to drive the wheels directly during sharp acceleration via a dedicated clutch.
The result: a smooth, quiet electric drive in town, and complete peace of mind on long journeys.

What is the actual range of the BYD Dolphin G DM-i?
The Dolphin G DM-i boasts a combined range of up to 1,040 km, comprising the electric range (up to 105 km depending on the model) and the range on a full tank of petrol. In everyday use, most journeys are made in 100% electric mode.
How long does it take to charge the Dolphin G DM-i?
The Boost, Comfort and Sport trim levels support 39 kW DC fast charging: from 10% to 80% in 28 minutes. When using a 6.6 kW wallbox for AC charging, a few hours are all it takes to top up for the next day’s journeys.
What is the difference between the Active trim levels and the other versions?
The Active trim features a 7.42 kWh battery with 3.3 kW AC charging only. The Boost, Comfort and Sport versions come with an 18.3 kWh battery, DC fast charging and a combined power output of 212 hp.
Is the BYD Dolphin G DM-i available in Switzerland?
